BTY Consolidation
An extensive upgrade of the Booster transfer lines took place in LS2 as part of the LIU programme. The programme had as a result the eradication of old control electronics and the installation of new power converters with energy recovery operation.
In the framework of the Accelerators Consolidation Programme the remaining transfer lines, notably the ISOLDE transfer line, is scheduled for consolidation in LS3 of its powering with the same technology of power converters and controls as the rest of the PS Booster transfer lines.
Consolidation Objective
The consolidation objectives are summarised in the following points:
- Replace equipment that reached end of life (MIL-1553 controls, powering),
- Enable energy recovering operation for energy economy,
- Co-locate powering of magnets located before the ISOLDE separating wall from building 197 to building 361,
- Guarantee that the new powering solutions will be compatible with a possible upgrade of ISOLDE@2GeV.
The selected power converter technology has been used since 2019 in all of the injector complex transfer lines (TT2, BTL, East Area) hence it is a natural candidate for the ISOLDE transfer lines.
